jim Engelking For Saint Louis Park Ward 2

My wife Betsy and I are Brookside residents; we have three adult children.  When we moved to Saint Louis Park ten years ago, the neighborhood welcomed us.  I’ve worked to give back to Saint Louis Park as President of our Brookside Neighborhood Association, as an election judge and as a volunteer and board member at STEP, our local food shelf and social service agency.

I grew up on Saint Paul's East Side and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Economics.  Throughout my career in aerospace and IT consulting, I gave back to the community through a range of activities including serving as school PTA president, coaching youth sport teams and leading my company's United Way campaigns.

I've been a sports official for over thirty years, officiating youth and high school soccer and girls lacrosse.  As an official, I served for twelve years on the committee that administers the US Soccer program in Minnesota.  I also cofounded and serve on the leadership team of the Twin Cities Soccer Referees Organization, an association of high school soccer officials.

CommitteD to the Community

STEP Volunteer and Director

During COVID, Jim unloaded the weekly trucks that deliver the food that STEP provides for our SLP neighbors.   Jim is currently a member of STEP's Board of Directors and still volunteers to cover the busy holiday season and volunteer absences.

Brookside Neighborhood President

Jim has been president of the Brookside Neighborhood Association for several years.  He helps organize events and activities that bring our neighbors together and make Brookside a great place to live.

Good Grocer

Good Grocer

While Jim was completing his culinary arts program, he helped Minneapolis non-profit Good Grocer obtain its restaurant license and developed the store's prepared food offerings.  In addition to creating tasty food, Jim is teaching culinary skills to neurodiverse postsecondary students.

United Way

STEP Pulled Pork Fundraiser

Good Grocer

In addition to leading his company's United Way Campaigns, Jim also served as a reviewer for the United Way's multiyear Community Investments RFP, helping identify programs that best meet the needs of our communities.

Jim applied his love of smoking meat to help our neighbors facing food insecurity.   Over the past six years, his holiday pulled pork event has raised over $25,000 to help STEP feed our neighbors.

Saint Louis Park Ward 2 Neighborhoods

If you live in the South Oak Hill, Meadowbrook, Brooklawns, Elmwood, Creekside, Brookside, Browndale, Minikahda Vista, Wolfe Park or Minikahda Oaks neighborhoods, you are a Ward 2 resident.
